Wandsworth Front Garden Design
This front garden faces onto a busy main road, and the client wanted to maintain the sense of separation between thoroughfare and home. She also wanted a large, secure storage unit with space to load and unload. A path of intersecting circles of sawn sandstone created an elegant walkway to the gate, including space in front of the storage unit.
The depth and density of planting softens the boundary. A generous, curving border of Echinacea purpurea, Salvia Amethyst and Verbena bonariensis wraps around the new paving, with drifts of Pennisetum grasses threading through to catch the light and add movement as traffic passes beyond the wall. Sedum was worked in for late-season colour and to keep the border feeding pollinators well into autumn.
The result is a garden that creates a cushion between home and the outside world, provides a good view from the sitting room and is much admired by passers-by.
