Colourful Surrey Planting Design

A vast terrace to accompany an extensive house renovation in Surrey near Wisley, was left unadorned. Planting a deep border around the seating areas with the client's favourite bright colours made the terrace more welcoming and a more comfortable space to spend time.

The planting is designed to impress all summer, with successive waves of flowers coming and going. Dahlia Bishop of Llandaff, Achillea Walther Funke, Geum Totally Tangerine and Salvia Royal Bumble bring bold reds and oranges, while Echinacea purpurea Magnus, Verbena bonaiensis,Echinops Veitch’s Blue, Verbena Bampton and Eurybia x herveyi add softer pinks and purples, all set against a backdrop of dark clipped yew hedging that makes the colours sing. Grasses like Pennisetum Fairy Tails weave through the border, adding movement and texture between the flowering displays.
